I consider there are two reasons for the increasing number of working poor.

Firstly, Many youngsters take part-time or temporary positions, which reduces their earning power. These days companies are reluctant to hire full time employees due to the sluggish economy in Japan. Although they do the same job and work as hard as their counterparts, they are paid much less. Some of them even do not have health care. These people only manage to scrape by on their meagre salaries.

Secondly, the number of people with practical skills and working experience is decreasing. This has resulted in a shortage of well paid jobs. Many college graduates are not good at solving problems in the real world, so they have difficulties in finding a good job. Some people are just doing manual and repetitive work. Under such circumstances, while they work hard, they earn less and consequently they feel tired and stressed in today’s society.

In conclusion, I believe that the stagnant economy and a shortage of well paid jobs are the reasons for the increasing number of working poor.
