Personally, I don’t feel the rich have a duty to help the poor in society. I have a few reasons for this.
First, it should be the government to help the poor rather than the rich. Any government has a liability to support its poor citizens. By providing more job opportunities and extending the length of payment for unemployment allowance, people in poverty can be effectively sustained. Governments also should increase the income tax rate of the rich to reduce the disparity between the rich and the poor.
Second, rich people attain great achievements through their wisdom and hard work, so theoretically they have no obligation to help others. However they may give away their money to the needy out of philanthropy. They also may participate in charitable work to help the poor.
In conclusion, I think the rich have no responsibility to help the poor based on the above reasons.
