I agree that the Olympics have become too commercialized. I have a few reasons for this.

First, with the opening of Olympics, the city will become noisy and crowded owing to commercialization. There will be too many distractions including trivial entertainments such as parades and illumination, fire work displays. Not only will these waste taxpayers’ money, but also affect local residents’ daily lives.

Second, the prices of goods in the city where the Olympics are held will definitely increase. The most obvious phenomenon is, the prices of restaurants, stalls will spike with decreasing quality. There are so many customers, so they don’t attach importance to quality of dishes.

Finally, Many countries make use of the Olympics to show their power and attract more overseas investments. Therefore they always build a lot of beautiful public facilities, venues and highways, etc. Most of these almost will be unused after the Olympics. What is worse is, maintenance of such facilities is quite costly and so will spend a great deal of government budgets which could have been used in improving quality of life of the poor.

Based on the reasons mentioned above, I maintain that the Olympics have become too commercialized at the expense of local people’s normal lives and tax payers’ money.

I agree that the Olympics have become too commercialized. I have a few reasons for this.

Firstly, with the opening of the Olympics, the host city will become noisy and crowded owing to commercialization. There will be many distractions including trivial entertainment such as parades and illumination, and firework displays. Not only will these displays waste taxpayers’ money, but also affect local residents’ daily lives.

Secondly, the price of goods and services in the host city will increase without doubt. The most obvious phenomenon is seen with the prices in restaurants. Also a spike in food stall prices – combined with poorer quality produce is an obvious trend. There are so many customers, so much demand that food outlets will not attach much importance to the quality of their dishes.

Finally, countries try to make use of the Olympics as a showcase for their power and influence – and also to attract more overseas investment. Therefore they always build a lot of beautiful public facilities, venues and highways, etc. Most of these will be probably remain unused after the Olympics. What is worse is, maintenance of such facilities is quite costly and so, a great deal of the government budget – which could have been used in improving quality of life of the poor – will be wasted.

Based on the above reasons, I maintain that the Olympics have become too commercialized at the expense of local people’s normal lives and tax payers’ money.
