I believe the mass media has a beneficial effect on modern society for the following reasons.

First, the mass media makes people more knowledgable. Nowadays public lessons concerning the sciences and language skills can be viewed on the internet and so people can acquire necessary knowledge at home. As people are becoming more knowledgable, it is conducive to the progress of society.

Second, Thanks to the spread of mass media, people can be informed almost immediately when a natural disaster occurs. For instance, an emergency broadcast can warn people to evacuate from dangerous(hazardous) places before tsunami arrives, which helps to reduce casualties.

Finally, people are becoming well-informed thanks to the mass media. For instance, people are able to search for the related medical information on the internet before going to a doctor, which contributes to improving the effectiveness of treatment.
