With globalization and increased popularity of using the internet, people throughout the world are being linked more closely, thereby English as a leading language in the world becomes even more significant in terms of communicating, understanding culture diversities and carrying out international business. So, I feel learning English is not just for examination purposes or to gain entry to a good university any more, but rather for more practical purposes: to enable us to express our complex thoughts more freely and accurately in any sphere.

As I recall, I honed my effort to memorize vocabulary and grammar when I was at school in order to get a high score in my English examination. I admit it was beneficial for me in building a foundation for my basic English. During that period, however, I could barely express what I wished to say in English and my ability to listen to English movies, documentaries was very limited. As time passes by, I gradually realize that I should change the way I study English so as to truly master this language and put it into practice.

So, in my adulthood,I started to widen the scope of my reading-ranging from scientific to art topics. I also seized every opportunity to listen to a variety of English audio materials and, in general, practice English more intensively. Especially since I attended the great Teacher Mr.Ian Wright’s lessons through DMM, I feel my English skill is progressively improving. Under his dedicated guidance and with my cumulative effort, I am now able to communicate with him without hesitation and with a confidence that enables me to express my most complex thoughts. More Importantly, the more fluently I speak, the more enthusiastic is my studying and practice of English. It seems the naive and haphazard form of study which was a feature of my youth, is now firmly in the past.

Speaking English with people from abroad helps deepen my understanding of history, culture and lifestyle of other countries. Through communicating with them I come to know how they go about their daily lives and become more familiar with unusual and colorful traditions, which all contributes to my enjoyment of the full rainbow of cultural diversity. Further, compared to the past I am becoming more and more confident and cheerful since I can speak English so well. I notice socializing with people from around the world is changing my character, which I didn’t expect before. I am now not so timid and afraid of making mistakes and more willing to accept challenges even though I know I may fail.

Putting my language proficiency into practice whilst continually learning English not only broadens my horizons and inspires me to rethink my perspective of many things(outlook on life), but also strengthens my confidence and determination to fulfill my dreams, regardless of whatever setbacks may stand in my way.
