I do not think the humanities have lost their relevance in today’s world.

Firstly, the humanities are necessary to keep order and peace in the world. Nowadays ethnical and territorial conflicts are frequently occurring around the world, which often escalates into warfare. Experts of the humanities are well-versed in geography, history and philosophy, all of which contributes to policymaking, negotiation and analysing political situations of countries involved so as to establish a more tactical and strategic foreign diplomacy. So people who master the humanities can become catalysts for peace.

Secondly, due to overdevelopment for economic gain and neglect of maintenance, a lot of outstanding heritage sites and art work are damaged. I feel it is a tragic loss for human beings. Hence, we need people who are specialized in art-history to research, restore and preserve existing artwork and hope these specialists to educate people in related knowledge in order to enable them to appreciate this priceless heritage.

Finally, the internet has made the humanities an integral part of people’s daily lives. These days there are a lot of well-written articles regarding the humanities on social networking sites. So by reading these materials written by people who hold a university degree in the humanities promote our understanding of the world.

Based on the above mentioned reasons, I maintain that degree holders in the humanities play a crucial role in our contemporary society whilst technology is developing rapidly at the same time.
