I consider two methods may be conducive to improving the stagnant economy in Japan. I will explain.

Firstly, The government should decrease income tax to stimulate consumption. Compared to the past, the average monthly salary of Japanese people has been declining in recent years, yet the income tax rate is one the rise, which weakens many people’s purchase power. There are a lot of excess commodities stocked in department stores and appliance shops. If Japanese citizens have more disposable income, I feel they will enjoy more pastimes such as going to restaurants, buying expensive things, which will help to boost the economy.

Secondly, The Japanese government should put more effort into developing tourism. Japan is a beautiful island country with some unique characteristics such as seafood, hot springs and sea views. So the government should encourage more people to visit Japan by abandoning consumption tax and deregulating visa formalities. I am sure if more people come to Japan, It will contribute to revitalizing the local economy as people need to eat, accommodate and entertain themselves during their stay in Japan.

In summary, I feel promoting domestic consumption and developing tourism would be beneficial to improving the sluggish economy in Japan.
