Should there be any limits on the right to freedom of speech?
Although freedom of speech is guaranteed in the Japanese constitution on the article 21, many people are requesting a limit for hate speeches by the constitution. It is a controversial issue these days. I believe that there should not be any limits on the right to freedom of speech. I will briefly discuss it.
Firstly, the freedom of speech is the one of basic human rights. Human beings have spent for many years trying to attain it. Once we lose this right, the government will take away the other forms of expression and impose a censorship as well.
Secondly, the hate speeches are mere boom. Japan has a bad relationship with the Korean government right now because of the “comfort women” issue and Japanese radical groups are using this opportunity to inflame innocent young people against Koreans. Some young adults are ignorant and easily manipulated by those groups. Then, the youngsters express their superficial anger as the hate speech. This deplorable boom will die down soon.
We should protect this precious right by all means.
