I believe the current English education in Japan should be reformed for the following reasons.

Firstly, the current English education is not effective in acquiring English communication skills. It overly focuses on memorizing grammar and vocabulary and learning test taking skills in order for students to pass exams. The practice of listening and speaking is insufficient in English education. As a result, many students cannot express their thoughts clearly and logically in English.

Secondly, it does not emphasize the importance of pronunciation very much. As most English exams in Japan do not include a speaking part, a lot of students are less concerned about their English pronunciation. Consequently, when youngsters communicate with native speakers at work, they are often not well-understood because of their incorrect pronunciation.

For the reasons just mentioned, I hold that the current English education in Japan should be reformed.
