Yes I believe that it is important to preserve minority languages. I have a few reasons to support my view point.

Firstly, minority languages symbolize unique traditions and cultures. It is said that different languages take on different geographical and cultural characteristics. There are special words and grammar in minority languages. For example, there are only present and past tenses in some ethnic languages as indigenous people do not stock food for the future. While minority languages are used within limited regions, losing their origins means precious cultures will disappear from the earth forever.

Secondly, there are about 6000 languages in the world and most of those are minority languages. Data shows that by the 22nd century, half of these languages will disappear. if there were only a few languages dominating the world,I feel our existence would become very boring.

In conclusion, I maintain(hold) that we have a responsibility to preserve minority languages in order to protect cultural diversity.
