Due to the overpopulation and global warming all over the world, environmental issues draw(trigger) people’s concern these days. With the progress of technology such as utilizing renewables and GE, I believe environmental preservation will be much improved in the future.

The most remarkable technology is adopting renewable energy. In fact, renewable energy is producing about 16% of the world’s energy needs. For instance, In the U.S, biomass has become the largest source of renewables and currently provides nearly 4% of the U.S. energy requirement. Not only does it make up for a lack of fossil fuels, but more importantly, it helps to reduce the emission of CO2 (CO2 emissions),which is conductive to minimizing the effects of global warming.

Secondly, genetic engineering has been developed rapidly over recent decades. Genetic modified crops have been proved more resistant to pests and diseases and so applying this technology in farming helps lessen the use of chemical fertilizer(pesticides). Consequently, soil erosion, water contamination have been much reduced.

Finally with advances in battery technology, more and more people are using environmentally-friendly electric(Hybrid) cars which do not emit exhaust fuels. This helps improving air quality a great deal and preventing the breakdown of ozone layer.

Although some natural areas are still being exploited(overdeveloped) for economic gain, which may lead to deforestation and the loss of biodiversity, for the reasons just mentioned, I hold that technology is beneficial for nature conservation.
